Kim DotCom is back – again: the USA content industry current arch-enemyquickly reacted to the latest domain shutdownand announced that his new service will soon be available at the mega.co.nz URL. On January 19th, DotCom promises, Mega “will change the world”.
Designed to be the successor to MegaUpload, Mega will be focused on secure and fast file sharing: on his Twitter feed, DotCom said that “New Zealand will be the home” of the service domain after the African country of Gabon decided to suspend the previously selected address (“me.ga”).
Mega.co.nz will be “powered by legality and protected by the law” of New Zealand, DotCom said on Twitter, a promise the German-born entrepreneur was clearly obliged to make after he asked for bail under the oath of never remaking the piracy-ridden MegaUpload again.
Mega will be a completely legal service, DotCom’s lawyers confirm: maybe the USA authorities will not be pleased, the lawyers suggest, but their client has the right to make a living even if he has been targeted (and illegally spied on as well) by the media industry as an alleged Internet pirate.
